PaperPort by ScanSoft, Inc. is one of the best applications to control your scanner's functions. Unfortunately, at the moment, PaperPort for Mac doesn't exist, but with the help of this list of alternatives, you can find many similar programs. PaperPort for Mac can be easily replaced by any of these software titles. I've used Paper Port to make my business paperless for 17 years. Have never used it for scanning as my ScanSnap is quite adequate as I can use the PPort printer to print to my clients files on the PPort Desktop. What I need is a software alternative for Mac 10.12 that gives me the same document manipulation & filing abilities of Paper Port 12 Professional.

PP has a few features that I haven't found elsewhere, and which I find extremely helpful. (1) Straightening a scan that's askew. (2) Clean off stray marks and black edging. (3) Cutting/pasting so you can rearrange material on a page (including copying from another page). (4) Filling in forms (where straight lines on a scanned page become "fields".
